Muslims consider Zamzam water to be blessed holy water. The Zamzam well, located within Masjid-al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is the source of this water. The well is positioned 20 meters east of the Al-Kaaba, the holiest location in Islam. The history of Zamzam water is as fascinating as its benefits, and both highlight its religious significance.

History of Zamzam Water
As related by Ibn 'Abbaas (R.Z.) Allah gave Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) the command to transport his wife, Hajara (A.S.), and son, Ismail (A.S.), to Makkah. Makkah was a desolate place during this time. The Prophet left his wife and son with a few dates and some water, then went back to his house, as Allah had commanded. The dates and water had been on this desolate land for some time. Hajara (A.S.) began seeking water as the young Ismail (A.S.) began to cry out from thirst. She traversed the hills of Safa and Marwa seven times while running (that is why circumambulating the Kaaba seven times is an important ritual of Umrah and Hajj both). Ismail (A.S.) the child started kicking the ground in his anxious state. Hajara (A.S.) noticed water gushing out of the area where Ismail (A.S.) was kicking all of a sudden. She started giving Ismail (A.S.) some of the water she had carefully saved for herself. The water that erupted became known as the Zamzam blessed water.
